DVC Resale vs Direct

Understanding DVC Resale vs Direct Purchase

Disney Vacation Club Resort

For those exploring Disney Vacation Club, understanding the differences between DVC resale and direct purchase is crucial. Both options grant access to the magic of Disney resorts, but your choice can significantly impact your finances, vacation flexibility, and future resale value. At DVC Sales, our experts guide families to make informed decisions for the best ownership experience.

Comparing Price: The Real Numbers

Substantial Savings with Resale

The price difference is significant. Buying directly from Disney usually costs $250 to $300 or more per point, depending on the resort. However, purchasing through the DVC resale market often results in 30% to 50% savings. This can mean thousands in immediate savings, which you can use for additional trips, dining, or buying more points. Popular resorts like Polynesian, Grand Floridian, and Beach Club Villas consistently offer strong resale value and lower entry costs compared to Disney’s retail rates. Use our DVC Compare Prices tool or view detailed points charts from Disney for current prices.

What Stays the Same

With resale purchases, buyers still enjoy:

  • 11-month booking window at their home resort
  • Deeded ownership with the same expiration as direct contracts
  • Access to Deluxe Disney Resorts, including Animal Kingdom and Boardwalk Villas
  • The same reservation system and booking rules as direct buyers

For most members, these core benefits are essential for planning magical vacations year after year.

Where Direct Has the Edge

Member Extras and Restrictions

Direct buyers receive additional perks such as access to exclusive lounges, special events, and select discounts on merchandise or dining. Certain new resorts like Disney’s Riviera Resort and Villas at Disneyland Hotel are only available to direct buyers. Points bought for resale at legacy resorts may have booking restrictions at these new properties. Review the latest resale restrictions and consult Disney’s official guidance for up-to-date information. For families seeking every possible perk, these extras might justify the premium. However, many owners find that the core DVC benefits outweigh the direct-only bonuses.

Why Resale Is the Value Leader

Long-Term Value and Flexibility

The DVC resale market is strong because resale contracts tend to maintain their value over time. By purchasing at a lower cost, you’re less likely to incur a loss if you decide to sell later. Many sellers even recoup most or all of their initial investment, especially at high-demand resorts. Resale also offers flexibility, allowing you to choose from various contract sizes, Use Years, and point availability that Disney might not offer. Our platform provides real-time contracts and transparent details for informed decision-making without pressure.

Experience, Guidance, and Support

At DVC Sales, our team comprises licensed Florida real estate agents and former Disney Vacation Club guides. We support both direct and resale buyers, guiding you through the process with step-by-step assistance, answering questions, and offering personalized advice based on your travel goals. Explore tools such as our Disney Vacation Club Checklist and DVC Annual Dues resource to compare the true cost of ownership.

Practical Tips for Prospective Buyers

Consider Your Vacation Habits

Before deciding between resale and direct purchase, consider your vacation habits. If you plan to visit Disney resorts frequently and value exclusive perks, direct purchase might be worth the premium. However, if your primary goal is to enjoy Disney accommodations at a lower cost, resale could be the better option.

Understand the Resale Process

The resale process typically takes 30-60 days, including Disney's Right of First Refusal (ROFR). Understanding this timeline can help set realistic expectations. Ensure all paperwork is complete and accurate to avoid delays.

Evaluate Long-Term Costs

While initial savings are significant with resale, consider the long-term costs such as annual dues, which vary by resort and may increase periodically. Use our resources to estimate these costs and factor them into your decision-making process.

In conclusion, whether you choose resale or direct purchase, both paths offer unique advantages. By understanding the differences and evaluating your personal preferences and financial situation, you can make a well-informed decision that best suits your family's needs.

Mitzi and I couldn't have had a more positive experience as the one which we had, in selling some of our DVC points through DVC Sales with Mark and Lori Webb. and their staff. The whole process was transparent, seamless and we were being fully briefed as to the. progress. Thanks to Mark we were kept aware as to what was happening with the listing, with the ROFR bu Disney, and with the closing process completed, all in a short months' time. We couldn't have asked for a better group than DVC Sales for the sale. they were honest . amd truly caring on our behalf. Mitzi and Lee Tucholski

Just sold some of my points and Mark and Lori were wonderful. I’m very, very happy with the experience. I got an excellent price and now someone else gets to enjoy just a bit more of DVC. The website is great to work with too. I will always use DVC Sales and encourage you to do the same.

Foreign sellers, beware; they will not provide correct information to you about what you can expect when selling. They also, at the end of the process, hit you with fees you did not expect, and you are too late to do anything about it.

I could not imagine being happier with my experience using DVC Sales to sell our Old Key West membership. We enjoyed so many years of Disney vacations. While on your website I started a chat that turned into a call with Lori. She took the time to explain how the website works. Within a few minutes I had created my account and listed my membership for sale. Within 3-4 weeks we received an offer and sold our membership. Thankyou Lori and DVC Sales!

Mark, today we have just received the last check for our 4th contract you sold for us. Our experience was outstanding you deserve the acknowledgement for your service. You remind me of the way customers were treated years ago. Everybody we spoke with or chatted online was friendly and helpful. Although the process took a few months, it was worth the wait. We hope the families who purchased on contracts have as much enjoyment as we have had. If anyone is looking to buy or sell a DVC membership you can use our name. Thank you again!
